Limnakaro is a small beautiful plateau located about six kilometers south of the Lassithi plateau at an altitude of 1300 meters. It is known mainly to sports climbers, as from here start several hiking trails for the Lassithi Mountains.

The three most popular of them lead, respectively, to the top of Afenti, Spathi, and Lazaro. In terms of soil morphology, the plateau covers an area of approximately 750.000 square meters and is heavily slanted. Most of it is rocky, while the rest is covered with fertile soil used for local crops.

Apart from the enchanting mountain scenery, in Limnakaros, there is a small Byzantine chapel of the Holy Spirit which you can visit, while the most active of you can try to climb to the shelter of the Lassithi Plateau Climbing and Skiing Association. The shelter can be found at the top of "Anastasis Strovilis" at an altitude of 1400 meters. From there, you can continue your walk through the two highest peaks of Dikti (at an altitude of 1650 meters), then descend to the beautiful pine forest of Selakanos in the province of Ierapetra.
